The Cake Lovers Crop Top

My obsession with the midi skirt is in full bloom this spring, I just love the way it brings a vintage feel to my wardrobe and cant help but feel super feminine and chic when I’m sporting one….psssst, does anyone else do the swirly dance in front of the mirror when they feel like that?...just me? I digress.
I also have a particular love for print, show me a floral printed anything and I will buy it (although I’m also partial to anything with cats on it, but that’s a whole other story and a whole other obsession which no doubt we will touch upon in future posts….my apologies in advance for that.)

Two beautiful printed midi skirts under my belt, I needed a crop top that would perfectly compliment the high waistline but not overwhelm the bold colourful print and more importantly NOT flash too much flesh as, to say I enjoy cake would be a massive understatement.

Cue Fashion Union Crop T-Shirt with mesh insert. I love the way the main panel of this tee finishes right on the high waistline tricking the eye into thinking its shorter than it is and allowing the print of the skirt to peep through the mesh panel still gives the illusion of a longer leg (and lets face it I need all the help I can get in that department). The mesh panel and thick black hem also mean that I have that extra bit of coverage on the midriff and can feel confident in moving around and sitting down without fear of flashing too much flesh and the dreaded muffin top rearing it's ugly head. The cut of the tee is that perfect combination of casual effortlessness and edgy, pair me with a skinny jean and killer heels, kinda vibe. All in all, a fantastic find and a great way to play around with the crop top trend if, like me, you enjoy cake a little too much.

Recipe - White Chocolate Rocky road

This is my absolute favourite treat when i want something quick & easy but that really delivers on flavour. It's a definite hit with all my friends and family too. It also just looks amazing and is great to give as a gift.

Ingredients:

500g White chocolate (my favourite to use is milky bar but you can use any)

250g Natural confectionary company jelly snakes (or jelly sweet of your choice)

1/2 Cup desiccated or shredded coconut

1 1/2 Cups pink & white marshmallows

60g Pistachio kernels & 1/2 Cup dried cranberries

Method:

Line a 21cm x 21cm square brownie/cake tin with baking paper or use a silicone one.
Melt the chocolate in a glass bowl over a pan of gently simmering water or in the microwave.
Chop your snakes into inch long pieces and cut your marshmallows in half. Lightly chop the pistachios.
Gently toast the coconut in a frying pan on a low heat until slightly browned.
stir in all the chopped ingredients into your melted chocolate until everything is coated, then pour the mixture into the prepared tin or silicone and press the mixture down to fill all the gaps and corners.
Refrigerate until set.
Cut into bite size chunks.

EAT!

The Magic of Makeup

Hi, I'm Gemma, a 29 year old “Pom in Oz” with an unhealthy appetite for all things beauty, fashion…and food!
I moved to Australia four years ago with my then fiancĂ©, now husband, James. We live in a remote mining town in the middle of the Australian desert and although we only ever planned on coming out for a few years, we are still here and we love it. We have two cats who you will no doubt hear about on a regular basis (yup, I’m one of those crazy cat ladies) and we just bought our first home so I should think you’ll hear a fair amount about that too, but first and foremost, I’m talking beauty, fashion and food. I really hope you enjoy my blog; I’m new to this so please bear with me while I find my flow. I’ll start you off with a thought for the day:

Have you ever asked yourself, or conversely, tried to explain to someone else, why you love makeup so much? I’ve yet to convince myself or anyone else, it’s a tricky subject. Some people will just never get it.
For me, doing my morning skincare & makeup routine is such a pleasure, I enjoy every step from cleanser to mascara.
I am a product junkie. I love discovering new ways a brand new product can transform my look and there is so much to choose from that we can really express ourselves creatively without all looking like carbon copies of each other.
I have always been one to get bored with my look. When I was a teenager I got my mum to dye my hair for me every 2 weeks, from blue to red, I had braids, curls, short hair, long hair but was never one to really bother with makeup. That obsession is a relatively new one for me and I think the real turning point was when I decided to do my own makeup for my wedding. Not being a huge makeup wearer at this point, I concluded that the last thing I wanted was to go to a professional who I imagined would be a tad too heavy handed for what I was used to! So I decided to do a little research into how to apply makeup for my big day..enter YouTube! From this day the obsession was born, it started with Lisa Eldridge and grew to include many more heavy weights such as viviannadoesmakeup, essiebutton and Lily pebbles…the list goes on! Through watching their videos I then read their blogs and now I can happily say I follow them everyday and love that I can trust them for reviews and they are certainly enablers for me when it comes to adding to my vast and ever-growing makeup collection, and mile long 'want' list. (I’m looking at you viviannadoesmakeup).
I don’t think I’ll ever be brave enough to start a YouTube channel so blogging will have to suffice for now, but I’m excited and I hope you enjoy what I have to offer. So to end my first ever little (or rather large) rant, I ask you…where does the magic of makeup lie for you? I’d love to know what it is about makeup or skincare that you love so much.

To get your creative juices flowing I share with you this link from allwomenstalk.com, 8 splendid reasons to love makeup here.

P.S. Rocky road (pictured above) recipe coming soon!!
